Choose an amplifier that never has to strain.
Generally, a higher-powered amplifier running clean does less damage than a smaller one that keeps clipping. Below 90% of its output, it generally sounds a great deal better than one struggling at 100%. The high peak power handling of Tannoy loudspeakers permits responsible use with more powerful amplifiers.
Two crossover points, one low loss network
Its passive network is hard wired and low loss. The bands divide at 350 Hz, then 2.5 kHz. The system covers 40 Hz to 20 kHz (-6 dB).
Behind the grille
Its heavily damped reflex box ports to the rear, built of 19 mm MDF with plywood bracing inside. It has a zipper grille with high acoustic transparency, and the speaker weighs 17.1 kg.
